Pilates

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates during the 20th Century.  It is a body conditioning scheme which has many advantages:

• Improve muscle tone

• Balance musculature

• Supports correct posture

• Improves Balance

• Increases lumbar stabilisation and flexibility

Therefore, Pilates has a great relationship with Physiotherapy as a form of rehabilitation and to prevent injuries.  It can also enhance sports performance by improving movement control and energy efficiency.

The growth in its popularity is testimony to how effective the Pilates method is, but it should be noted that not all Pilates classes are the same and not all instructors are the same!  At Banstead Physio and Therapies we aim to provide you with the necessary education to perform exercises correctly and safely, at a steady progression.  This will enable you to then participate in a class confident you have the correct technique. Ideally a course should last 4-5 weeks but if you would like to do just one or two sessions that’s fine as well.

Please contact us if you would like more information or to discuss it with a physiotherapist.

You can either come with a friend or we can pair you up with someone. Either way, the classes will be beneficial and FUN!
